Cemetery Gate | Cemetery History The original name of the Cemetery is unknown. The 1877 township map shows the location of the Scott Hill Cemetery and School and indicates a road running by the Cemetery. The first known interment was the infant son of Wiley A. and Nancy A. Cox, buried November 26, 1860, aged 1 day. The last known interment was Mr. Thomas Goin, October 26, 1944. The first official status of the Cemetery is found in Deed Book 27: 291 in the Mercer County land records: James H. Barrett and his wife, Amanda, deeded one acre to Ben Evan Ragan, Byron McKinney and John W. Smith, Trustees of the Cemetery lot herein described on December 14, 1894. The consideration was $6.00. J.M. Clendenning, Notary Public, notarized the document. J.A. Thompson, Mercer County Recorder, recorded the deed March 16, 1895. |
